Our Services

SHA Library delivers services to support patient care and evidence-based practice. Click on a service to make a request or learn more.
If you can't find what you need below, use our Service Request Form to submit your question or request.

Request specific books or articles. If we don’t have it in our collection, we will obtain the article or book from another institution at no cost to you.

Please note the following about our document delivery services:

  • Standard article delivery time is 1-3 days. If the request is urgent, please let us know when you make your request.
  • Books may be borrowed for 3 weeks and renewed up to 3 times unless otherwise indicated.
  • All loans are subject to recall.
  • Items may be returned to any of our library locations.
  • We don’t charge overdue fines; however, after 3 overdue notices, you will be invoiced for items not returned.
  • Loan periods for books borrowed from other institutions depends on the lender’s policy. Replacement costs for lost or damaged items are the responsibility of the borrower.

Request an email alert to stay current in your practice or specialty. Alert types include:

  • Journal alerts - Notifies you when an issue from a journal on your alerts list is available.
  • Subject alerts - Sends you lists of new articles on your selected topic as frequently as you want.

Please include the following when you make your request:

  • Frequency of alerts (i.e. monthly, weekly, etc.)
  • Period of alerts (i.e., 6 months, 1 year, permanently, etc.)
  • Journals you are interested in receiving new issue alerts from (if applicable).
  • The subject and keywords of your requested search alerts.

Request an evidence search to have a librarian search and compile a list of relevant publications (articles, guidelines, etc.) on a topic or question. Results include a list of relevant abstracts with instructions for accessing or requesting full-text.

The standard turnaround time for searches is twenty business days. If possible, a librarian may accommodate a shorter turnaround for urgent searches.

Register for library physical access to gain after-hours badge/prox card access to library locations. Our libraries include study spaces, network computers, physical collections and in-person support.

Report a problem with the Library website, our licensed resources, or anything else related to our services that is not working for you.

Request a book or other resource purchase through the SHA Library on a charge-back basis for your department or unit.

Purchasing through the Library allows you to take advantage of discounts and save money on bulk purchases. Your purchased books will also be catalogued so they can be found using the search box on our website.

Register for remote resource access to:

  • access Library resources from offsite and your personal devices
  • set up the BrowZine app to read and monitor specific journals
  • add other licensed apps to a personal device
  • add LibKey Nomad to a device's browser to access articles found on the web.

Book a room for study or training purposes. Our bookable rooms include:

  • RGH Back Study Room - equipped with a table, 4 seats, and a display monitor with VGA and HDMI cables.
  • SCH Computer Training Room 1930 - equipped with 7 SHA network desktop computers and a Smartboard.

You must have prox card/badge access to use these space after hours. Recurring meetings may not be supported.
